Venice Centre History

The Venice Centre began as the San Marco Hotel in 1926. Built at the same time as two other hotels by the Railroad Engineer's Union to house their potential land buyers from the North. Unfortunately, the 1929 Stock Market Crashe ruined their sales efforts and the hotels were closed until 1932.

This was when the Kentucky Military Institute of Lyndon, KY began renting the building as a Winter Campus. Eventually the school purchased the builidng and two other nearby buildings.

The cadets and cadre came down to Venice by train to enjoy the weather and beaches while continuing their studies. Due to anti-war feelings and therefore lack of students the school closed its campuses in 1970.

In 1973 the property was purchased and re-vitalized to what it is today...a combination of businesses and residential condomimiums.
